01 · THE HONEST ANSWER

Drawn by architecture,not by furniture.

Bedrooms are sold by the bed; they should be drawn by the room. The bed position is dictated by the window, the door swing, where the AC drip-line falls, and where the wardrobe can open without a fight.

02 · WHERE THE BUDGETS GOES

Four pieces. One of them is the wardrobe.

The split for a master bedroom. The wardrobe carries roughly 60% of the cost; the rest divides between the bed wall, supporting storage and the ceiling’s lighting layers.

Wardrobe

Storage & dresser

Side tables, loft, wall-mounted dresser with mirror. Bespoke beats off-the-shelf here.

Ceiling & lighting

Gypsum with a pelmet recess, cove + reading layers on two circuits.

04 · FIELD EXPERIENCE

Six things we’d avoid in a bedroom.

Patterns we see again and again — on our own early projects and on the quotes clients bring us to audit. Each one is cheap to avoid on paper and expensive to fix on site.

01

Wardrobe handles that stick into the walking path.

In bedrooms under 12 ft wide, protruding handles catch clothes, hips and elbows. Flush handles, J-profiles, or push-to-open — anything that sits flat against the shutter.

02

A bed back panel taller than the AC line.

If the headboard panel runs above the split AC, you lose serviceability access and the panel warps from heat cycling. Stop the panel 6 inches below the AC line.

Warps

no service access

03

Only one electrical circuit for the whole room.

Bedside charging, reading light, AC, wardrobe light, cove — all on one MCB means everything dies together. Minimum two circuits: lighting and power, separated.

together

04

Mirror wardrobe shutters facing the bed.

A full-length mirror directly facing the bed throws glare from any light source at night. Place the mirror on the side wall or inside the wardrobe door.

05

No provision for a curtain pelmet in the ceiling.

If the false ceiling has no pelmet recess, curtains hang from a visible rod. The pelmet should be designed into the ceiling from day one — retrofitting it later is expensive.

06

A shoe rack inside the bedroom wardrobe.

Shoes bring moisture, odour and dust into a closed wardrobe. A separate shoe unit near the entrance — even a slim wall-mounted one — keeps the wardrobe clean.
